Entebbe International Airport has reported significant growth in both passenger and cargo traffic for January 2025.
The airport welcomed a total of 216,740 international passengers, comprising 105,320 arriving and 111,420 departing, averaging 6,991 passengers per day.
This marks a notable increase compared to January 2024, which recorded 194,563 international passengers.
Vianey Luggya, Spokesperson for the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA), attributed this growth to several factors, including a surge in tourism, Uganda’s hosting of international conferences such as the African Union Extraordinary CAADP Kampala 25, which attracted 977 delegates.
The expansion of Uganda Airlines into new routes and the entry of new air operators, including Kush Air and Premier Airlines, which offers flights to Juba, have also contributed to the increase in traffic.
January 2025 saw the second-highest passenger traffic recorded in a single month at Entebbe, following December 2024’s record of 222,317 passengers.
Other peak months included August 2024, with 204,575 passengers, and December 2023, with 198,961 passengers.
In terms of cargo, the airport handled a total of 5,069 metric tonnes in January 2025, comprising 3,491 metric tonnes in exports and 1,578 metric tonnes in imports.
This represents a significant rise from the total cargo traffic of 67,731 metric tonnes recorded in 2024, compared to 59,073 metric tonnes in 2023.
Luggya emphasized that these developments reflect Uganda’s growing status as a key player in regional and international aviation, contributing positively to both the country’s economy and its global connectivity.
